Brief History
With a rich history dating back to the16th century, San Fernando was originally known as San Fernando de Naparima - the latter referring to the nearby Anaparima Hill.
In 1853, San Fernando was incorporated as a borough, gaining greater administrative autonomy and self-governance. During the mid-19th century, San Fernando grew through infrastructure development, and the construction of a courthouse.
The City’s motto is “Sanitas Fortis” which means "in a healthy environment we will find strength".

Art In Motion
During San Fernando Glamour Week 2024 in December, the event, Art In Motion, brought together talented students, passionate artists, and art lovers from all walks of life. The Corporation extended its thanks to all the amazing artists who shared their stunning work, the dedicated staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, and to all the sponsors for making it a success.

Guaracara River and Mangrove Flooding Initiative
His Worship, The Mayor, Councillor Robert Parris had the pleasure of touring the fence line area of the Guaracara River and mangrove with members of The Paria Fuel Trading Company this morning, Wednesday 7th August, 2024.
A discussion was had in regard to the further maintenance of the area and future flood mitigation precautions.

Launch of Art in the Park and Tree Planting Program
On Tuesday 6th August, 2024, His Worship the Mayor Councilor Robert Parris was delighted to join His Excellency, Mr. Peter Cavendish, the EU Ambassador, The Honorable Pennelope Beckles Minister of Planning and Development and Member of Parliament for Arima, The Honourable Brian Manning Minister in the Ministry of Finance and Member of Parliament for San Ferando East at the Art in the Park and Tree Planting Launch Program, held at Maraj/Mootoo Lands recreational ground in Marabella south. Also in attendance were Councillors Sasha Ali and Nigel Couttier.
"Thank You" sentiments were extended to Ms. Sandra Matthews Noel and TECU Credit Union for their generous sponsorship, as well as the ICTA for spearheading this inspirational initiative, which symbolizes the collective commitment to enhancing the Corporation's community's beauty, sustainability, and cultural richness.

Freedom Festival
The 2nd and 3rd August, 2024 saw the Harris Promenade in San Fernando come alive with the Freedom Festival. This momentous occasion was filled with numerous activities and entertainment much to the enjoyment of all.
