Brief History

The Regional Corporation functions as a corporate entity governed by the Municipal Corporation’s Act No. 8 of 1992. It plays a pivotal role in the effective management and development of its community and seeks to enhance citizens' quality of life through effective stakeholder consultation, education and provision of value for money services.

PAHO/WHO Consultation

Local Government Representatives, including Chairman Raymond Cozier, attended the PAHO/WHO "Health Promotion to Address Environmental Determinants of Health in Trinidad & Tobago using a Health Cities, Municipalities and Communities Approach" at the Trinidad Hilton in December. Sargassum Reclamation Initiative

In November, Chairman Alderman Raymond Cozier, Councillor for Rio Claro South, Councillor David Law, the Chief Executive Officer and other representatives of the Mayaro-Rio Claro Regional Corporation, had the pleasure of meeting with Members of the Greening Economy Participants Incorporated to discuss a Sargassum Reclamation Initiative. 


Members of the nonprofit organisation included the Founder and CEO, Mr. Andre Clifford, the Chief Operations Officer, Mr. Omar Rocke and the Project Director, Mr. Daniel Thomas.

The discussions surrounded a project to assist the region of Mayaro-Rio Claro with the collection, management and disposal of Sargassum seaweed, which has been affecting marine life and the shores of Trinidad and Tobago.

YETT Beach Cleanup & Tree Planting Initiative

​On July 27th, 2024, Chairman Alderman Raymond Cozier attended the Youth Empowering Today for Tomorrow's (YETT) Beach Clean Up and Tree Planting Initiative. The beachfront spanning from Church Street to Queens Beach, Radix Village, Mayaro, was the area cleaned. Other community groups such as the I Believe in Success Foundation, representatives of Massy Group of Companies, and various other NGOs were also present.

 

Chairman Raymond Cozier commends the YETT team for a job well done on another successful community initiative and encourages future collaborations to ensure a clean and safe environment for the Mayaro-Rio Claro region and Trinidad and Tobago!

MOWT Coastal Protection Unit  - Site Visits

On June 29th, 2024, Chairman Alderman Raymond Cozier attended a site visit that was conducted by The Ministry of Works and Transport's Coastal Protection Unit. This site visit was held in the Guayaguayare Electoral District where various affected areas along the sea coast were visited. Also in attendance was the President of the Guayaguayare Village Council.

​

The team toured parts of the coastline in various areas such as: behind the Calmapas cemetery, Guayaguayare Village and New Lands village. This activity was scheduled to visit ongoing and future projects of the Ministry of Works and Transport - Coastal Protection Unit as they are preparing to do some work on the sea coast of Guayaguayare.
