Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation 

Brief History

The Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation was established under the Municipal Corporations (Amendment) Act No. 8 of 1992 which merged some of the regions to make nine Regional Corporations, reducing the number of Municipal Corporations to (14) fourteen.

 

The first Council of the Couva Tabaquite Talparo Regional Corporation was sworn in on October 3rd 1992. Mr. Ramchand Rajbal Maraj, was the first Chairman of the Corporation. â€‹

Cricket Tournament

In November, The Talparo Youth Club, in partnership with CTTRC Chairman Ryan Rampersad, wrapped up its 3-month Cricket Tournament. This tournament's goal was to support the youth of La Horquetta/Talparo and to serve the Corporation by providing a platform for development and to showcase local talent.

Infrastructure Improvements

Councillor Arlene of the Couva East/Balmain district spearheaded a significant public-private partnership focused on infrastructure improvement within the community. 


In collaboration with residents of Calcutta #2, this initiative was to restore and enhance the condition of local roads, ensuring safer and more accessible transportation routes for all.

Disaster Management Unit (DMU) Public Outreach Program

The CTTRC Disaster Management Unit conducted two public outreach programs (Gasparillo Mall & JTA Complex. Couva). The outreach showcased the DMU flyers, equipment, conducted lectures and also had trivia games for the public to engage in. The main goal of the outreach was to educate the public on disaster preparedness in order to create more disaster resilient communities.

Outstanding Academic Performance Recognition

At the 10th Statutory Meeting of the 11th Council, Ms. Chelsea Hosein who resides within the electoral district of Chickland/Freeport and attended the Naparima Girls High School, was recognized for her outstanding academic performance in the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination Unit 1 2022 and Unit 2 2023 where she received 1s in each of the examination. Ms. Hosein is the recipient of an Open Scholarship in General Studies in 2023.


In 2022 at the CAPE, Ms. Hosein received 4 Ones and placed 10th in geography Unit 1 on Regional Merit List and 10th in Management of Business Unit 1 on Regional Merit List. In the year 2023 CAPE UNIT 2 – she again performed excellently and received (4 ones), 7th in Geography unit 2 on Regional Merit List and 17th in Caribbean Studies Unit 2 on Trinidad and Tobago Territorial Merit List.

Local Economic Development Entrepreneurship Hub

An informative session with The Trinidad & Tobago Entrepreneurship Hub on Personal Money Management was held on Thursday 22nd February 2024 where the Chief Excutive Officer, CTTRC, Ms. Hinni Maraj for delivered brief remarks. Fifty-five (55) persons benefited from this session which was hosted both in-person and virtually.

The Corporation was also excited to partner with the E-Hub for a 3-day workshop, facilitated by visiting Fulbright Specialist, Dr. Joann Flett. This event was made possible through grant funding from the US Embassy.

 

Twenty-five (25) entrepreneurs attended an indepth session on business planning and financial literacy, including understanding the documents needed to access a loan from banking institutions.​
